๐ŸŽฎ DirectX & Vulkan (Graphics Mode)

FullRO's client can render the game two ways: the classic DirectX 9 path, or a modern Vulkan path. Vulkan is enabled by default because it usually gives smoother, more stable frame rates on today's GPUs โ€” most noticeably in crowded towns, MVP fights, and War of Emperium.

You can switch between the two at any time from the FullRO Global Patcher โ€” no reinstall needed.

๐Ÿ’ก Not sure which to pick? Leave it on Vulkan. Only fall back to DirectX 9 if your PC is very old or you hit a graphics glitch.

๐Ÿ”€ How to switch

  1. Open the FullRO Global Patcher (FullRO Global Patcher.exe).
  2. Click the GFX button on the side rail.
  3. Choose Vulkan (recommended) or DirectX 9 (Native).
  4. Close the chooser and press Start to launch the game.

The change applies instantly and sticks until you change it again.

โš–๏ธ Which mode should I use?

Vulkan (default) DirectX 9 (Native)
Best for Modern GPUs (last ~10 years) Very old GPUs / integrated graphics with no Vulkan support
Frame rate Higher & more consistent, better frame pacing Baseline
Crowded maps / WoE Handles them much better Can stutter
Compatibility Fixes some black-screen / driver quirks The original engine path
Requirement A Vulkan-capable GPU (NVIDIA GTX 600+, AMD GCN+, Intel HD 500+) Any GPU

โš ๏ธ If you ever see graphical artifacts or the client won't start on Vulkan, switch to DirectX 9 (Native) in the GFX chooser, then update your GPU drivers and try Vulkan again.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ How it works

Vulkan mode drops a small translation layer (a d3d9.dll) into your client folder that converts the game's DirectX 9 calls into Vulkan in real time. DirectX 9 (Native) mode simply removes it so the game uses Windows' builtโ€‘in DirectX 9. Nothing else about your client or characters changes โ€” only how frames are drawn.

For the best results on either mode, keep your GPU drivers up to date.
